Fender Strat Stratocaster Japan 1984/85 Fujigen W/ hard case | Fender Strat
This guitar comes in a hard shell case, it is exactly like the Fender cases, but it does not say Fender on it. I was told that this was original, but I don't know because I always thought Fender cases always said Fender (maybe not true)

Teaching Chords To Beginning Guitar Students - Guitar Noise

In his latest article, Tim explores some of the problems that beginners tend to have making and changing guitar chords, with real life cases from the course. Tell him/her to grip the strings hard when playing the chord, then to relax totally (without taking fingers away from the strings/chord), then tell the student to squeeze again all fingers at the same time! Then relax. The goal here is to train his/her brain to make all fingers move and relax together and not one finger at a time.

Am I the only one that likes "sticky" necks? I just keep it slick
feeling by going over it w/ guitar polish every now and then. I used
to have a Gibson SG Special that had a nitro finished neck that felt
like fly paper (maybe because I always kept it in its hard case and
didn't get to "air out" much, but the Strat feels a million times
better for some reason, I always figured the rosewood fretboards where
just naturally smoother. But my '52 neck is just as smooth, I credit
this to the hard thick glossy nitro finish.

World Tour Acoustic Guitar Padded Gig Bag for 3/4 Size Guitar
My 9 y/o son has been playing guitar in his school band for two years.
He has gone through many of the soft bags. We were going to buy a hard
case until we saw this advertised. The bag is very sturdy. My son
plays a 3/4 guitar and this might do OK for him too.

The Joy of Minimalism: I removed something from my bike that I didn't need, and cycling got more awesome - garry's posterous

For Christmas last year, my little brother built me a single speed / fixed gear bike. He was kind enough to add both front and rear brakes, so I could get up to speed with riding it without, uh, dying. I started riding single speed -- it felt like I always had the wrong gear. Too slow, too fast. I was bored.

Then I started riding fixed-gear. Its true what they say: You feel more in touch with the road and the bike. But I still had front and rear brakes -- and I used them quite a lot, even though I didn't need to. I still hadn't broken with my non-fixie habits.

Today, I removed the rear brake. I took off the whole mechanism -- cable, calipers, everything. (I kept the front brake just to be safe.) The bike looks a LOT cleaner. But that's not interesting. What matters: It changed my entire cycling experience. I'm right handed, and the rear brake handle was on the right side of the handlebar -- so now that it was gone, the urge to brake went away. I regulated my speed according to my surroundings. I didn't brake. I way more free to just roll naturally, as I had one less knob or control to worry about. It was liberating.

When it comes to software and products of all kinds -- think about what removing a rear brake might do. There are so many needless dialogs, radio buttons, menus, alerts, gradients, drop shadows, mouseovers, text, icons, lines, boxes, and so on. Its absurd. Every single element in a UI exerts some cognitive load -- some weight on the brain. Its slowing you down. You're trying to get to a destination, and all the inessential UI is just screaming for more of your precious brain power.

Get rid of the things you don't need. Keep the things you do. Yes, you can add to the experience by subtracting.

Who needs brakes?

black acoustic guitar with hard case

I saw this advert for a "black acoustic guitar" and it turned out to
be a Fender which is one of my target makes, and comes with a guitar
hard case too, so that would save me having to hunt one down
sepereately.

 "Fender Black Acoustic Guitar

I have a Mint Condition Black Fender Acoustic Guitar for sale It is in
Brand New Condition It comes with a locking Black on Black Hard Case
new set of strings, extra set of strings, really nice capo, guitar
stand, and pics"

The only trouble is the vendor is in Michigan which I'm pretty certain
is in the United States of America so the delivery costs are going to
be astronomical for a cheap black acoustic guitar.

Nice choice in guitar by the way, i have the EC-500, less flashy that the deluxe models but that's the way uh hu uh hu, i like it. Guitar Hard Case

After having an accident with my first 12string guitar I realised how important it is to have a guitar hard case to protect my instrument. I started out with hard wooden guitar cases but did find them a bit heavy and ended up with a fibreglass guitar hard case for the six string I bought new. The next step is a kind of gig bag that is soft on the outside and lightweight, but has a large amount of foam padding inside that protects the guitar.

Cowboy with black acoustic guitar

Cowboy black acoustic guitar

The cowboy told us all about his music and guitar, as we sat around
the fire, listening attentively.

He said that when they started, they didn't even think about it. "We
played that kind of music because we loved that kind of music—but also
all we had was a black acoustic guitar. You know, what other kind of
music are we going to play?

He goes on and on in that one note only, adding more and more stanzas,
telling the old stories. Then he slams the stringshard on his black
mirror acoustic guitar with the white beading. The audience is hanging
on his heart, right with him.I love the blues, so I'm lapping it up
here, and the black acoustic guitar man who took on the faces of
different animals as he played in all his passion, just kept on
strangling the strings good, and sent the cowboys one military nod and
a wink.

 Heady stuff

smashed guitar hard case story

Another story about a guitar that got smashed while being taken on an
airliner, this time the airline replaced the guitar but it still makes
me very wary of ever flying with a guitar whether it's in a hard case
or not.

 From http://www.edmontonsun.com/news/canada/2009/08/22/10561081-sun.html :

"Graham said he was devastated when he opened his guitar case only to
find out that his Stonebridge got smashed and the one he won at the
festival was damaged.

But last Thursday, he received a replacement guitar courtesy of Air Canada."

Maybe this compensation was forthcoming because of the "United breaks
guitars" video

Guitar Hard Case

Guitar Hard Case Tips

Is anybody looking for guitar hard case tips? Well maybe not directly but there are a number of questions that do come up regularly inside our music makers forum which are all phrased around the subject of guitar hard queries so I thought I might as well deal with them on this new guitar hard case blog.

These are the topics in no particular order:
  • Is it safe to travel with a guitar in a soft case or do I need a hard case?
  • What's the best type of material for a guitar hard case?
  • Will any old guitar hard case fit my 12 string?
  • How much extra should I pay for a second hand guitar that comes with it's own hard case?
There are a few other questions that come up from time to time and we'll try to deal with them later but here are the main topics first.

Answers to guitar hard case questions:

Is it safe to travel with a guitar in a soft case or do I need a hard case

Of course it depends on how you are traveling but in most situations a hard case allows greater peace of mind than an unprotected guitar in a soft case. If you are checking your guitar in for a flight on an aeroplane though, even a hard case isn't going to guarantee your guitar will come through the baggage handlers treatment undamaged. You can get special bomb proof guitar hard cases that are made of toughened steel on the outside and cradle the guitar in a specially sprung hammock on the inside but these weigh a ton and are usually more expensive than most vintage collectors guitars. If you're a very successful touring band then it might be worth considering. If you're just nipping out to the local folk club with a yard of Chinese plywood on the other hand, a soft case is lighter to carry and takes up less space on the bus.

What's the best type of material for a guitar hard case?

Fibreglass is best these days, but there are still plenty of wooden guitar hard cases around, which work perfectly well but are heavier to carry.

Will any old guitar hard case fit my 12 string?

All guitar cases manufactured these days are of a standard size such that a normal 12string guitar shouldn't need special sized case. One exception is the Ovation 12 string guitars because of the extra bit sticking out at the end of the headstock. If you buy a hard case that's meant for a Spanish or Classical guitar, it might just fit a normal steel strung folk guitar which can save you a few pounds, but don't expect it to then fit a dreadnought or 12string.

How much extra should I pay for a second hand guitar that comes with it's own hard case?

Watch out for this one because second hand guitar dealers often try to bump up the price of a cheap guitar by throwing in what sounds like a perfect guitar hard case, and the temptation is to think that you're going to need to buy one any way. The case then turns out to be a inferior cheap one so you would do better to negotiate on the price of the guitar only, and then sort out whatever case you are going to need later. Of course if it's a famous manufacturer who makes their own distinguishable guitar case such as Martin or Guild it is quite usual for the case to be included in the deal. They wouldn't really want to be left stuck with a hard case but no guitar would they?
